Write a chapter with any AI
Export a chapter brief, write the chapter with the AI of your choice, and bring it back so DunneWrite can check it against your story.
Available25 min· Intermediate· DunneWrite 0.22.0
DunneWrite doesn't write your chapters. Instead it tells an AI of your choice what your story has already established, then checks what the AI wrote against it. In this tutorial you'll go round that loop once.
You'll need#
- A story with some material in it: characters, places and at least one chapter. See Ingest your notes.
- An account with any AI chat service you like. DunneWrite is not involved in that account.
- A provider connected in DunneWrite, for reading the draft back in at the end. See Connect an AI provider.
Export the brief#
- Open Writer's Room and select the chapter you want to write.
- Open the Write from the bible tab.
- Choose how far back to look for the cast: The chapter just before this one, The last three chapters, or Everything written so far. Start small; the brief's size is shown so you can see what you are about to paste.
- Under File, choose Markdown (.md), or Plain text (.txt) if your chat window shows Markdown marks literally.
- Press Export the notes… and save the file.
Write with your AI#
- Open the brief file and copy its contents.
- Paste it into your AI chat, and ask for the chapter you want.
- Work on the chapter there until you are happy with it, then save it as a text or Markdown file.
This step costs nothing through DunneWrite and needs no key in DunneWrite.
Bring it back and check it#
- Open Ingestion Review and press Ingest a file — see the cost first….
- Pick the chapter file.
- When asked whose writing it is, say it is an AI draft, not your own writing. This keeps it out of canon: the draft can only propose changes.
- Read the cost screen and start the run. It uses your provider, like any ingest.
- Review what the draft proposed. DunneWrite shows where it disagrees with what you had established: continuity problems, people in two places at once, conflicting facts. Accept or reject each one.
What you've learned#
- Export the notes… writes a brief of what your story already establishes, sized to fit.
- The brief works with any AI, through your own account.
- Reading the result back in as an AI draft keeps it out of canon until you accept its changes.
Next#
- Do it again for the next chapter. Each brief now knows what the last chapter established.
