DunneWrite · Settings and help
Settings, accessibility and layout
Make DunneWrite easier to read, choose light or dark, resize the panels, and find the other settings.
Settings is pinned to the bottom of the left-hand menu, so it never scrolls away. None of the choices on this page costs anything or touches your writing, and every choice is remembered.
Text size#
Settings ▸ Text size has four steps: 100%, 115%, 130% and 150%. Press one and the whole app changes immediately: the writing, the menus, the buttons and the labels on the diagrams. If the default is a strain, go straight to 150% and work back down. Nothing is designed around 100% being the right answer.
Light or dark#
Settings ▸ Appearance offers Dark and Light. Dark is the default. Light is a proper light theme, not a washed-out version of the dark one. If a screen looks wrong in Light, please tell us through a support ticket.
Resizable panels#
Three panels can be made wider or narrower: the main menu down the left, and the Inspector and Audit panels on the Knowledge Graph. Put the mouse on the dividing line between a panel and the middle of the screen, and drag. They stay where you put them, including next time you open the app.
- Double-click a divider to put that panel back to its original width.
- Without a mouse: press Tab until a divider is focused, then use the left and right arrow keys to move it, or Home and End to send it all the way in or out.
- Reset panel widths in Settings puts all three back at once.
You can also hide the main menu entirely with Stow the menu, giving every page the width back, and bring it back with Show the menu.
The left-hand menu#
Related pages are grouped under Ingest, Reference, Map and Reading Order, and each group can be opened and closed. Items inside a group are indented with a line beside them, so the grouping doesn't rely on colour. Every group starts open. When a group is closed, any number showing work waiting inside it stays visible on the group heading.
Telling you when work is done#
Settings ▸ Telling you when work is done has one choice: Tell me when a long job finishes. Reading a manuscript can take hours; with this on, DunneWrite lets you know when it is ready, even if you have gone off to do something else. Short jobs never interrupt you. Turning it off only stops the pop-up; the progress on the taskbar and inside DunneWrite carries on either way.
AI keys and Which one reads your notes#
Where you save a Claude or Gemini key, check it, and choose which provider reads your notes. See AI providers and costs.
Storage on this computer#
Your stories grow as you read material into them. Settings ▸ Storage on this computer shows what is taking up room and offers a few ways to reclaim space without deleting any of your records.
DunneWrite also watches how long its own work takes on your computer, and adjusts the time estimates it gives you. When it does, it says so. It only ever changes its own advice; it never deletes anything.
Take it with you#
Settings ▸ Take it with you exports the open story as one file, with Export this series…, or imports one, with Import a series…. See Stories and bundles.
