Open a shared story
Import a .dunnebundle file someone sent you, look around it, and send a story back as one file.
A .dunnebundle file is a whole story in one file: its characters, places and props, the prose,
every save in History, the pictures, and the notes about where every fact came from. In this
tutorial you'll open one, find your way around it, and export a story as a bundle of your own.
Opening a bundle is free and needs no AI key of any kind.
You'll need#
- DunneWrite installed and open.
- A
.dunnebundlefile, saved somewhere you can find it.
Import the bundle#
- Press Import a bundle…. If you have no stories yet, it is on the Dashboard's welcome screen. Otherwise, click the story name at the top of the Dashboard to open the story picker, and it is at the bottom of the list.
- Pick the
.dunnebundlefile. - Read the preview. It shows the story's name and how many characters, places, props, facts, saves and pictures it holds. Nothing has been imported yet.
- Press Import.
- Press Open it.
If a story with the same name is already on this computer, the import is filed under a slightly different name, and the preview tells you which. Nothing you already have is touched.
Look around#
- Open Writer's Room and click a character in the right-hand panel.
- Open the Provenance tab to see which passage each fact came from.
- Try Search with the name of a place, and Knowledge Graph to see who is connected to whom.
Send a story back#
- Click the story name at the top of the Dashboard.
- Press the ⤓ button on the row of the story you want to send.
- Choose where to save the file.
The same export is also in Settings ▸ Take it with you as Export this series…. The file can be emailed, uploaded or copied, and imported anywhere DunneWrite runs.
What you've learned#
- A bundle carries a whole story, including History and pictures, and opens with no key.
- Importing shows a preview first and never changes a story you already have.
- ⤓ in the story picker, or Settings ▸ Take it with you, sends a story out as one file.
