Build a form
Create a form page with text, date and signature fields, send the answers to a table, and fill it in.

In this tutorial you'll build a simple visitor sign-in form with a name, a date and a signature. Each submission will add a row to an answers table.
You'll need#
- A notebook open.
- An
.icsfile, exported from any calendar app, for the date field. Any calendar export will do, because the field only uses the day the calendar is showing.
Create the form#
- Choose New (+) ▸ Form. DunneNote creates a page called Untitled form with a first text canvas and an empty answers table, and confirms with "Form created — name the canvas as a field to begin."
- Rename the page
Visitor sign-infrom the notebook tree. - Select the first text canvas and choose Form field. Name the field
Name.
Add more fields#
- Choose New (+) ▸ Calendar, pick your
.icsfile, and make it a Form field calledDate. A Calendar field answers with the day it's showing. - Choose New (+) ▸ Sketch and make it a Form field called
Signature. - Add a Rich Text canvas with instructions, such as "Please sign in below". Don't make it a field. It's just a label.
- Open Tab order and arrange the fields as Name, Date, Signature. This sets the order the Tab key visits them. It doesn't change which canvas is in front.
Choose where answers go#
- Choose Answers go to. The panel asks Where should this form's answers go?
- The answers table that was created with the form is already chosen. Leave it, and turn on Show the answers on this page and Show when each answer was submitted.
- Choose Done.
Fill it in#
- Choose Fill in this form. The layout is now locked, so you can't move or resize canvases by accident.
- Type a name in the Name field.
- Move the Date calendar to today using Previous and Next.
- Sign in the Signature field.
- Choose Submit form. DunneNote confirms with "Submitted." A new row
appears in the answers table, with the name, the date as
YYYY-MM-DD, and the signature. - Redraw the signature on the form. The row you already submitted doesn't change, because an answer is a copy.
What you've learned#
- New (+) ▸ Form creates a form page with an answers table.
- Form field turns any Rich Text, Calendar, Sketch or Picture canvas into a field.
- Tab order sets keyboard order. It isn't stacking.
- Answers go to chooses the destination, Fill in this form locks the layout, and Submit form adds one row per submission.
Next#
- Arrange a page and make a template. Turn this form into a reusable template.
