Arrange a page and make a template
Stack, tidy and position canvases, then save the page as a template that keeps some content and clears the rest.

In this tutorial you'll lay out a meeting-notes page with a heading, a logo and a notes area. You'll control which canvas is in front, tidy the page, and turn it into a template that keeps the heading and logo but starts each new copy with empty notes.
You'll need#
- A notebook with a page open.
- A small image to use as a logo.
Build the page#
- Add a Rich Text canvas and type the heading
Meeting notes. - Add a Picture canvas with your logo.
- Add a second Rich Text canvas for the notes, and type a few placeholder lines.
Arrange it#
- Choose Move canvases, then drag the logo so it overlaps the corner of the notes canvas. Choose Move canvases again to stop moving.
- Select the logo and choose Layers. The list shows every canvas on the page, with the front-most at the top. Move the logo down one step and watch it go behind the notes. Move it back up.
- Select the logo and choose Wrap in the toolbar. The notes text now flows around the logo instead of running underneath it.
- Choose Auto-layout ▸ Tidy. The canvases are rearranged so none overlap. Try Grid and Rows too, then choose the one you like.
- Choose Layout mode, select the heading, and type an X and Y position to place it exactly. Choose Layout mode again to leave.
Decide what the template keeps#
When you make a template, every canvas keeps its position, size and settings. Its content is cleared unless you tell DunneNote to keep it.
- Select the heading canvas and press Keep content in templates in the toolbar.
- Do the same for the logo.
- Leave the notes canvas as it is, so its text is cleared in each new copy.
Make and use the template#
- In the notebook tree, right-click the page and choose Make as Template….
- Right-click the notebook (or a group) and choose New from Template…, then pick your template.
- Open the new page. The heading and logo are there, in the same places, and the notes canvas is in position but empty.
What you've learned#
- Move canvases and Layout mode position canvases by dragging or by exact numbers.
- Layers controls which canvas is in front. Tab order is only for form fields.
- Auto-layout rearranges a page so nothing overlaps.
- A template always keeps layout. Keep content in templates decides, canvas by canvas, whether content is kept too.
