Licences and licence keys
How buying and subscribing work, how to use your licence key, what you keep without a licence, and the one connection a subscription makes.
Two ways to pay#
You can buy DunneNote once or subscribe monthly. Current prices are on the pricing page.
| One-time purchase | Monthly subscription | |
|---|---|---|
| Yours to keep | Yes, from the day you buy | Yes, after 6 paid months |
| Updates | Every version released up to 12 months after you buy | Every version while you subscribe, then up to 12 months after it becomes yours |
| Contacts DunneCorp | Never | About once a month, until it becomes yours |
Either way, a licence covers one person on all the computers they use.
Your licence key#
Your licence is a licence key: a long line of letters and numbers. You get it by email after you buy, and your current key is always on the Billing page of your account.
- On the Billing page, click Copy next to your DunneNote key.
- In DunneNote, open Settings ▸ General and find the License section.
- Paste the key into Add license key. DunneNote checks it on your computer, with no network connection, and you're done.
Use the same key on every computer you use. There is no activation limit and nothing to deactivate when you replace a computer.
Six paid months make it yours#
A subscription becomes yours to keep once you have paid for 6 months in total. The months don't have to be in a row: if you subscribe for three months, stop, and come back later for three more, DunneNote is yours.
At the 6th paid month:
- DunneNote becomes yours as if you had bought it that day, with every version released up to 12 months later included;
- we cancel the subscription, so you aren't charged again;
- DunneNote picks up its new key at its next check and then never contacts us again. You can also paste the new key from your account yourself.
Your account's Billing page shows how many of the 6 months you have paid for.
Your 12 months of updates#
Owning DunneNote covers every version released up to 12 months after you buy, or after your subscription becomes yours. Those versions stay licensed forever.
A version released after that runs as if you had no licence (see below). Keep using the version you have, or buy or subscribe again to use the newer one.
Without a licence#
You never lose access to your own notebooks. Without a current licence, for example after a subscription ends, DunneNote still:
- opens, reads and edits every notebook you have;
- restores notebooks from your backups.
It can't create new notebooks. Every copy of DunneNote includes one free notebook, so you can try it before you buy.
What a subscription sends#
Only a subscription ever connects, and only to renew its key with
license.dunnecorp.com:
- around the time each month's payment is due, and when you choose Check for renewal;
- it sends just the current key, which holds your account ID, the product and
your licence dates, and gets a new one back. The request also names the app
and its version (for example
DunneNote/0.9.2). There is no device or install ID, and nothing about your notebooks is sent.
If DunneNote can't connect, nothing stops working: a paid month stays valid for 16 days past its end, so you can work offline, and a failed check never stops a notebook opening. A one-time licence, and a subscription that has become yours, never connect at all. See Security and privacy.
Refunds#
You can ask for a refund within 14 days of any payment. A refunded month doesn't count toward the 6. See the refund policy and section 2 of the terms.
